Just when we thought Corsair has probably delivered its best in power supply, it came bang on with the new and better RMx Series RM1000x. Corsair is an American computer peripherals and hardware company that has been in business since 1994.
Their years of experience and expertise in this field help them deliver products that meet the current market demands. So, does the CorsairRMx Series RM1000x Power Supplylive up to the expectations?
Let’s find out:
When we took a closer look at the RMx PSUs, we found that itis more of a stripped down version of RMi units. The RMx line boasts a capacity of 550W unit which is an upgrade over the RMi line.
The complete RMx Series actually consists of five different units with varying capacities ranging from550W to 1000W. Each unit is fully modular and comes with an80 PLUS Gold certified efficiency. Corsair offers a basic version of the sophisticatedRMi platform for those who are not fond of constantly monitoring their PSU with the help of software. In this case, you simply install the PSU and forget it.
As these units have a similar internal design to RMi units, we expect that they can deliver a similar kind of reliable performance. The most powerful of the RMx units boasts a capacity of 1 KW and it is capable of supporting the highly complicated and demanding gaming systems that come installed with multiple VGAs.
The RMx units deliver an impressively quiet operation when the load is light to moderate. The quiet operation is due to slow fan speed and semi-passive operation. The Corsair RMx Series RM1000x Power Supply has been rated as number one where noiseless operation is concerned, and the RMx series is not an exception.
Modern day users not only seek high PSU performance but also want noiseless operation. It is tricky for companies to combine these two features without compromising quality and CorsairRMx series excels in this regard. They come with a highly efficient platform matched with a suitable fan profile to give you a high-capacity yet quiet PSU.
As the RM1000x is 80 PLUS Gold certified, we expect a much higherlevel of efficiency in terms of operation, with less energy generation and low operating costs. It uses DC-DC converters to generate the minor rails hence they are Haswell ready. While the older RM units were rated only up to 40°C, the RM1000x can go as high as 50°C.
The Corsairs RMx series is a marked improvement over the earlier series and we appreciate the company’s desire to get better with time. It looks good and reliable. Performance wise, it delivers a rock solid power supply and there are no power variations even under impact of a heavy load.
We like the modular design of the RMx series which reflects the motto of using only what’s needed to keep things neat and minimal. The biggest benefit of using this in your computer is that you get noiseless operation and the fan starts only when the load exceeds. Even then it operates silently to provide passive cooling. A good buy for sure!
